It Ain't Over 'til It's Over

I want to celebrate prematurely. The Gallup tracking poll has Obama up by 11 points and hasn't had the spread below double the margin of error in two weeks. McCain has failed in two consecutive debates to measure up to Obama in either demeanor, content, or presentation. Palin-McCain are still trying to shore up their base by campaigning in places like North Carolina and using tactics straight out of the Jesse Helms School of Political Science and Cross Burning. (I put Palin first because most conservative bloggers are now only interested in her and some are even suggesting "flipping the ticket" and making Palin the presidential candidate.)

I want to celebrate, but I won't. There is too much to do and too much that can still happen.
  • Islamic extremists know that Republicans are their strongest allies in their war against civilization. That is why the October Surprise in 2004 was Bin Laden endorsing John Kerry. Al-Qaeda will do everything it can to help John McCain.
  • There are concerted efforts by Republicans to rig the elections in several states including Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and of course Florida. Voter intimidation, vote count fraud, election equipment shortages and breakdowns that only happen in Democratic precincts will all occur. Turning those five states through chicanery would change even a landslide Republican loss into a narrow McCain victory.
  • Happy, complacent people forget to vote.
We have to win by such a margin that no amount of fraud will change the result. The very first day to celebrate is Wednesday, November 5.

Yup, nothing is certain until it happens. I'd like nothing better than a nationwide, crushing defeat of conservative republicans. That will take concerted effort until the end.

We, as a country, cannot afford to have McCain as president and Palin as VP, if only because the supporting staff they would bring with them are the same folks who have brought us to where we are.

It almost seems like Palin/McCain are angling for someone to assassinate Obama. That is probably their only real hope of "winning." Of course, they "really" don't want anyone to do that. And, it would be a "shame" if it happened. But, "god willing,'' they'd be ready.

Or, is Palin praying to her god to smite Obama. Hard to know what goes on in her head, except that she is ambitious. And, if it is god's will, what the heck. Who is she to argue?

Would McCain sell his soul to the devil to win? Has he? It's hard to know how much real honor he has left.
