Iraq War: Quarterly Update

American Military Deaths
4th quarter 2006 ..... 288
Total for 2006 .........822
War Total ........... 3,002

This is the highest quarterly death toll since the beginning of the war. Second highest was 272 in the 4th quarter of 2004 which included Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah.

American Military Wounded
4th quarter 2006 ....1,963
Total ................24,565

Iraqi Security Forces Killed
4th quarter 2006 ..... 496
Total for 2006.......2,117

This is down from 600 in the third quarter. American deaths have increased by 60% while Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) deaths have decreased by 17%. This indicates that Iraqi forces are standing down as much as they can.

Can't say as I blame them

As long as we try to get the Iraq Army to send Shia troops into Sunni neighborhoods and Sunni Troops into Shia neighborhoods we are going to have problems making them an effective army.

People have differences and often never resolve their issues but can learn to tolerate each other.

Look at the Protestants and Catholics in Ireland.

But, it's too much trouble for Bush to try to figure out the nuances of dealing with issues in the middle east.

Like using loaded words such as 'Crusades'.
And uttering catch phrases like, 'Bring 'em on.' Then, he's surprised when--they do.
